Mr. Joseph J. “Joe” Coblish, is the Director of the White Oak Geographically Separated Unit (GSU), Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Silver Spring, Maryland. He serves as the civilian director of a remote operating location of AEDC and is directly responsible for all operations at the White Oak site including the world-unique hypervelocity ground test capability, Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel No. 9. He provides technical leadership and strategic direction identifying future high-speed needs and innovative strategies to build operate and support advanced test facilities, systems and equipment.

Mr. Coblish has spent his entire professional career at the Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel No. 9, holding multiple positions with both the USN and USAF as hypersonic test engineer, lead projects manager, deputy director, and site director. He led technical teams in the development of advanced instrumentation and diagnostics, new facility capabilities, novel test strategies and efficient test and evaluation of advanced hypersonic system development in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Mr. Coblish was born in Troy, NY. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University and received a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park with emphasis in computational analysis and advanced measurement techniques.
