Donald (Don) C. Overton hails from Scottsdale Arizona and currently living in Williamsburg Virginia. Don is currently serving as Transportation Requirements Branch Chief, Army Futures Command (AFC) Sustainment Capability Development and Integration Directorate (SCDID). Entering civil service in 2009 following his retirement from the Army where he served on active duty for 28 years.
Enlisting into the Army in 1974 as an Armor crewmember Don rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being commissioned as an Artillery Officer in 1987. After completing Officer Basic school, he was assigned to a Lance Battery in Gessen Germany. Holding serval troop and battalion leadership positions to include Assembly and Transportation platoon leader, and Battalion Maintenance Officer Don was branch transferred to the Transportation Corps.
Don’s branch is responsible to develop requirements for all Army Transportation systems to include Tactical Wheeled Vehicles, Army Watercraft System, and autonomous ground and aerial resupply systems. Recently Department of the Army approved key programs such as Common Tactical Truck (CTT), Autonomous Tactical Vehicle – System (ATV-S), and Maneuver Support Vessel – Heavy (MSV-H). Don has led numerous studies that have identified critical Army transportation gaps, one in particular 2017 Trailer study that identical the Army’s need for Medium Equipment Trailer and Enhanced Heavy Equipment Transporter System.
He attended University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Later, he attended Old Dominion University where he earned a master’s degree in Personnel Management.
Don’s previous civilian and military awards include the Superior Civilian Service Award, Meritorious Service Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Forces Commendation Medal, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, and Parachutist Badges.
